Probabilistic BDI Agents: Actions, Plans, and Intentions

چکیده

The Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) architecture is a popular framework for rational agents, yet most verification approaches are limited to analysing qualitative properties, example whether an intention completes. BDI-based systems, however, operate in uncertain environments with dynamic behaviours: we may need quantitative analysis establish properties such as the probability of eventually completing intention. We define probabilistic extension Conceptual Agent Notation (CAN) BDI agents that supports action outcomes, and plan selection. semantics executable via encoding Milner’s bigraphs BigraphER tool. Quantitative conducted using PRISM. While new can be applied any CAN program, demonstrate by comparing standard selection strategies (e.g. ordered or fixed schedules) evaluating executions smart manufacturing scenario. results show improve significantly completion, appropriate distribution. also impact outcomes marginal, even when failure probabilities large, due agent making smarter choices.

Aborting Goals and Plans in BDI Agents

Intelligent agents that are intended to work in dynamic environments must be able to gracefully handle unsuccessful goals and plans. In addition, such agents should be able to make rational decisions about an appropriate course of action, which may include aborting a goal or plan, perhaps at the request of another agent, or as a result of the agent’s own deliberations. In this paper we investig...

Modelling and Reasoning about Remediation Actions in BDI Agents

Remediation actions are performed in scenarios in which consequences of a problem should be promptly mitigated when its cause takes too long to be addressed or is unknown. Existing approaches that address these scenarios are application-specific. Nevertheless, the reasoning about remediation actions as well as cause identification and resolution, in order to address problems permanently, can be...

Situational preferences for BDI plans

In BDI programs it is quite common to find context conditions of plans which are over-constrained in order to ensure that the most preferred plan is selected for use. This is undesirable for at least two reasons. It makes the plan not available for use at all in situations where it could be of value as a back-up plan, and also it requires incorporation of information that conceptually belongs w...

Going beyond BDI: Programming 'BDI+' Agents

The BDI model for intelligent agents has been very influential for both theoretical and practical research in agent technology. It gave rise to a form of agent-oriented programming which could be called ’BDI programming’, the programming of the mental attitudes of agents, where these attitudes pertain to notions in the vein of beliefs, desires and intentions. In this talk I will sketch how we c...

Actions Made Explicit in BDI

The Belief, Desire, Intention (BDI) architecture is increasingly being used in a wide range of complex applications for agents. Many theories and models exist which support this architecture and the recent version is that of Capability being added as an additional construct. In all these models the concept of action is seen in an endogenous manner. We argue that the Result of an action performe...
